For Employers & Job Seekers

According to the National Safety Council, nearly three-quarters of those struggling with addiction to alcohol, pain medication, marijuana and other substances are employed. Therefore, it is likely that employers will experience or have experienced, direct impact of substance use in the workplace. Examples of direct impact include misuse of substances at work, positive drug tests, complaints to HR, absenteeism, decreased productivity, injury, and/or overdose.

Interested in having Public Health present at your workplace? Contact Us!

Employers are in a key position to recognize, help and stop substance misuse. If you are an employer—YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

  • Treat substance use disorders and opioid use disorders as diseases.
  • Leverage employee assistance programs to help employees return to work.

AND REMEMBER – supporting recovery is good for business. Workers in recovery have lower turnover rates, are less likely to miss workdays, are less likely to be hospitalized and have fewer doctors’ visits than the general workforce. – National Safety Council
